24th International Carnival Congress

Carnival of Cádiz, heritage of Spain and humanity.
7 and 8 November 2024. "Lequerica Hall", Constitution 1812 Building, UCA SECOND CIRCULAR

Carnival is a festival that generates creativity, but, historically, it has also generated an extensive and incalculable documentary and artistic heritage that must be safeguarded, as it helps to understand this universal festival that takes on particular characteristics in Cádiz, as recognised by the Andalusian Regional Government when it declared the Cádiz Carnival an Andalusian Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC), which reinforces the aspiration for it to also be considered Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.

The Chair of Carnival of the University of Cadiz and the City Council of Cadiz, with the collaboration of the Aula de Cultura del Carnaval de Cádiz, Diputación de Cádiz and the Delegation of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the Junta de Andalucía, convene the twenty-fourth International Carnival Congress, which will bring together researchers and scholars on carnival manifestations, to exchange knowledge on the historical, anthropological, ethnic, literary, musical, artistic characteristics ....Carnival as a cultural, historical, ethnographic and artistic heritage.
