Masks Project

Una rete fra dodici partner europei, tra pubblico e privato, per attività di formazione online, mobilità e attività di living lab.
Quattro Paesi europei (Spagna, Portogallo, Italia, Romania) dove la tradizione delle mascherate è ancora oggi fortemente presente nelle aree rurali.
Un percorso di formazione e apprendimento rivolto agli studenti con il coinvolgimento diretto degli artigiani locali, custodi della tradizione.

Join MASKS's courses
A native of Velilla de la Reina, she is the daughter of a carpenter and a dressmaker, from whom she learned skills that have enabled her to carry out significant work in the field of traditional culture. She has been a member of the Cultural Association Toros y Guirrios of Velilla de la Reina since its beginnings in 1979, and is one of its most active collaborators and a steadfast guardian of the community’s ancestral traditions and knowledge. She has always been committed to preserving and passing on her knowledge, especially to young people, teaching sewing workshops through the Association for the making of traditional costumes and masks for Antruejo. She also organizes workshops to produce scapulars, banners, wall hangings, and other items. She has likewise collaborated in setting up the ethnographic exhibitions promoted by the Association, which are held throughout the year during Cultural Week, Antruejo, and Christmas. Finally, her contribution to the preservation of folklore and traditional music should also be highlighted, as she plays the rabel, an archaic musical instrument widely used in the old pastoral world.
Artisans - Ana María Fernández López
Esmeralda Folgado Casado (1983). She is from Abejera, a village known for the masquerade “Los Cencerrones”, and currently resides in San Vitero. She works as a manager at the Mycological Museum of Rabanales and as a guide at the House of the Carochos in Riofrío de Aliste. With a background in teaching, specialized in music education (2004) and special education (2010) from the University of Oviedo, she has developed professionally as a wool artisan and storyteller. She is passionate about learning and teaching others in a creative and proactive way. Her adaptability allows her to manage various projects and performances, in which she combines original storytelling with the structure of traditional tales and craftsmanship: Cuentos de la lana (Wool Tales) and Mascarada (Masquerade).
