UNIBAS - Università degli studi della Basilicata

On September 2, 2024, the DIUSS – Department for Humanistic, Scientific and Social Innovation – was established following the reorganization of the teaching and research structures of the University of Basilicata. It brings together the degree programs from the former departments: DICEM – Department of European and Mediterranean Cultures; DISU – Department of Human Sciences; DIMIE – Department of Mathematics, Computer Science and Economics.

The Department for Humanistic, Scientific and Social Innovation is dedicated to education, research, and third mission activities within the fields of humanities, socio-economics, and cultural (both tangible and intangible) and environmental heritage.

In this interdisciplinary perspective, various research areas and groups converge and interact within the Department, striving to develop, through new forms and modes of collaboration and cross-contamination, a series of experiences already matured in previous years. Its goal is to address the complexity of human societies in their historical evolution, their forms of expression, organization, and cultural, economic, institutional planning, and their relationship with nature, the environment, georesources, places, territories, and landscapes.

It is committed to contributing to the search for answers to major historical-cultural, ethical-social, philosophical, economic, business-economic, legal, political-environmental, technical-planning, and educational issues of our time.

The proposals of the Department for Humanistic, Scientific and Social Innovation include first-level and second-level degree programs, five-year single-cycle master’s degree programs, and third-level programs (including several PhD courses). DIUSS operates at three sites in the two cities where the University of Basilicata is located:
