International Colloquium - Creative processes and discursive strategies Pro-equity

The values of masquerades are part of the theme of the International Colloquium on Creative Processes and Pro-Equity Discursive Strategies held at the UAM Unidad Xochimilco (Mexico) from 29 to 31 July

Participation was framed within the framework of Round Table II. Discursive strategies and equity with otherness in which professors from Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana Xochimilco, Universidad Federal de Pelotas (Brazil), Universidad de Ibagué (Colombia) and Academia di Belli Arti Venezia participated online. The activity was organised by Professor Diana Elena Barcelata Eguiarte of the UAM Unidad Xochimilco and the División de Ciencias y Artes para el Diseño a través del Área Estética, Cultura y Semiótica de Diseño del Posgrado CyADTe.

“Tradition today. Changing roles in carnival performances” was the title with which Pilar Panero (University of Valladolid) defended the values of cooperation and equality that our ancient masquerades bear. In the festivities in which the use of masks and costumes was the exclusive privilege of boys, if it had not been possible for girls to benefit from this right, many of them would have disappeared due to a lack of actors. This evolution and this change is now being faced with total naturalness. Where men are still the protagonists of the rite, communities use various creative strategies for the active participation of women. Pilar Panero gave several examples based on some of her research that she has already completed, but which are linked to the MASKS line of work.

We thank Professor Barcelata Eguiarte and the UAM Xochimilco for the opportunity to show the line of work of our European project aligned in favour of the integration of all members of small rural communities that are recognised, even from the diaspora in which their members are.
